So, you’re engaged!

First and foremost – CONGRATULATIONS!! This is such an exciting time in your life and there is so much ahead for you and your brand new fiancé (EEE!!). After you’ve told all your family members, made your social media announcements, and popped open some champagne to celebrate you are probably looking forward to the next step of your engagement.. WEDDING PLANNING.

Some of the first things couples often do while they are planning a wedding are:

1. Choose their Wedding Photographer and then 2. Have their engagement photos taken.

When you get engagement photos taken, not only are you capturing a monumental time in your life, you are also receiving images that will be the forefront of your Save the Dates (or as many wedding related Facebook groups call them, STD’s. Just warning you now!) and your wedding website. If you are choosing to have a shorter engagement period and will not have enough time to create Save the Dates with your beautiful faces on them, that is okay! I still strongly recommend you still go ahead and schedule an engagement session with a photographer.

Not only is an engagement session a fun way to show off the love you and your new fiancé share, it is also a way for you to get to know your wedding photographer before your big day! This photo session gives you the opportunity to see how they will communicate with you from behind the camera.

Many couples I have worked with start out our communication with “We get so nervous in front of the camera” which is all the more reason to get in front of it as often as you can! Your engagement photo session will help get you more comfortable being in front of the camera, and will help to solidify a stronger relationship with your photographer. Your wedding photographer is essentially an all-day (8+ hour) hype man/woman on the day of your wedding, so it’s important to trust them and to know they will give you good direction.
