“Well damn Jackie, I can’t control the weather!”

But I can help you prepare for it on your wedding day!

While you can’t fully anticipate what weather you’re going to get, especially if you live in Northern Minnesota, there are some ways to prepare for any wedding day weather scenario!

Preparing for Extreme Heat:

If you’re getting married in the summer months, especially July or August, I highly recommend having plenty of drinking water available. An indoor space you can cool off in is also incredibly helpful to have. When you’re searching for a wedding venue, keep in mind the time of year you’re getting married and try to find a venue that offers an indoor space with air conditioning! If you love a venue that doesn’t offer air conditioning, ask if they have hot weather plans like setting up large box fans to help keep you and your guests cool.

Bonus tip: portable battery powered fans are HEAVENLY on hot wedding days!

Preparing for Rain:

If it’s raining on your wedding day, that means good luck! (Even though it might not feel like it in the moment..)

Rain can really put a damper on your wedding plans if you were intending on doing your photos and ceremony outdoors. Fortunately, there are ways to work around this!

Whenever I photograph a wedding I always bring some clear umbrellas just in case there’s rain! The umbrellas allow us to still go outdoors and get some beautiful portraits while keeping your hair, makeup and wedding attire safe and dry.

If you’re looking for wedding venues and you’re worried about it raining on your wedding day, try to find a wedding venue that offers both indoor and outdoor options so you can quickly change plans on the day of!

Preparing for Snow and Extreme Cold:

If it’s snowing on your wedding day you’re (probably) getting married during a season that you had anticipated snow. Although, like I said before, Northern Minnesota can get some crazy unpredictable weather at any time of the year!

My advice is to absolutely embrace the snowy weather while staying safe! Dress as warm as possible and know your limits if you’re doing any photos outside. It can get extremely cold in Northern MN in the winter months so I try to limit the time spent outdoors at weddings, especially keeping in mind the windchill factor. No one needs to get frostbite on their wedding day!!

While weather on your wedding day can be unpredictable and can really cause a headache, it’s ultimately out of our hands. We can hope for the best and prepare for the worst!
